Between the Shades of Grey

The life I live Is not like yours With splendid colors And vibrant hues The one I have Has none of those I live a life Of lines and shades Where black and white Is all I see And yet within Those subtle tones A new perspective I can give To those whom Are blinded by The brilliance of A colorful display For once those walls Are taken down True perfection Begins to appear And natures subtle Artwork appears More beautiful than Any color can Between the shades of grey.

For A Blackbird

As I wrote one dreary day Beside my favorite windowsill I was given such a tremendous fright When a winged creature flew inside. It fluttered about in frenzied panic Attempting to find some simple solace And when it finally came to rest I realized it was an avian. A smaller songbird, black as night. It hopped about with broken wing. Once gathered and nestled into my arms It settled down to sleep. I kept it safely in my home And over time the wing did heal. I taught it many a happy song And helped it take flight once again. When the time did come to set it free I did so with a heavy heart. Returning to my lonely work Beside the windowsill.

I leave my torch where it lies in the leaf litter: I don’t expect to find any batteries in the heart of the forest. The girl leaves the circle of light cast by the torch – the men are still scouting around, checking if I’ve been followed. She walks a short distance away, but I stop following her when I see the shapes silhouetted in the mushroom-light. Horns as thick and long as my arm twist their way up from a head which is held proudly at twice my height. The trees close in, surrounding me, keeping me hidden. But I don’t like it. I have lived in this forest for all the twelve long years of my life, and I’ve never felt such maliciousness in the air as there is tonight. Dust and pollen clog the stagnant air beneath the canopy and I’m forced to breathe it in, feeling my chest tightening in response. Hello, my name is Andrew. I'm a writer mostly, and enjoy composing poems, horror stories, and the occasional sci-fi. I do take a long time to write things, and don't post very often. However, I do try to put the most effort into what I write whenever I do.

Also do a small bit of comic art. They're usually four-panel strips that come out every week or so, depending on how much spare time I have.
